2- How did your shop get its name?
Owner Dan Allaston needed a name for the first tattoo shop in the city. Bestowed with the wisdom of the ancients, Dan looked into his magical orb (a calendar hanging on his kitchen wall) and the words "New Moon" were spelt out to him like a prophecy.
3- Tell us about your studio/shop: what kind of space is it or history does it have?
We are fortunate to be located in one of Ottawa's oldest buildings. It was originally a upper end family home which was then converted to a series of businesses including a book store, a Sri Lankan restaurant and a rooming house. The building is bright yellow, and the staff have lovingly christened it the Yellow Submarine.
4- Explain to us the neighborhood your shop is in?
New Moon Tattoo is located in the Britannia Beach area, just a short walk from the Ottawa river! There is a lot of diversity in this area, which has provided our studio with a loyal clientele from all walks of life. Years ago this area was cottage country before the urban sprawl, and now is considered a large working class neighborhood.
5- What is the studio vibe?
New Moon tattoo keeps the traditional tattoo shop energy while always keeping its door open for anyone to stop on in to take a look at artwork, inquire, and book appointments. We love visitors into our space. We also love to showcase tattoo history with the help of our tattoo collection.
6- Your tattoos and tattooers are rad! Please share some tattoos from your staff!

7- Does your studio travel for tattooing? If yes, which conventions, guest spots were favorites?
New Moon Tattoo is proud to be the organizers of the NIX Toronto Tattoo Convention, Canada's longest running tattoo showcase event. We are also very honoured to have been a apart of over 200 international conventions across the world including China, South Africa, etc.
8- What type of tattoo styles are done at your studio?
We love all and serve all, big or small! Our team strives to provide work of all styles. While our artists do most all custom tattooing, they do take a likeness to styles such as Asian/Japanese, Neo-traditional, Traditional, Black and Grey, and more!
9- Do you have merch for sale and where can we purchase it?
We always carry merch in our studio and when our artists are on the road attending conventions. We also have gift certificates available for purchase on our website.
10- What are everyone’s interests outside of tattooing?
We are a close bunch and do love doing things together! We love going on to eat and having a good time. We also travel a lot together. We work hard and play hard.
